Lotus Elise (2000 - 2022) 2d Owner Review

Lotus 2017 Elise

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

So as you would expect with a Lotus, it's a road legal go kart and I absolutely love it for that reason. If you want practicality - get something else. However if you want something that will put a smile on your face from the moment you get in it until you get out of it then nothing I have ever owned comes close. The feel of the car is almost like running your hands over the surface of the road for how much feedback it gives you, or maybe that's your bum? As it is that low you feel just as much in that as well. The only criticism I can give this car is that I wish it was more powerful, the chassis can clearly take it (seeing as it's the exact same as the Exige), this has actually left me with a tough decision to make... sell it and buy an Exige or upgrade the engine. After doing my homework the best versions of the Elise/Exige seem to be the ones with a Supercharged Honda K20 engine conversion in, which puts them to Ariel Atom type performance. I think I will go this route, then turn the car into what it should have always been from the beginning.

How reliable do you find the car?

The car has never broken down on me, however due to age when buying it there was age related issues and a common fault of the head gasket going at 40,000 miles. So all maintenance I have done has been preventative and should see the car right for the next 20 years.
