Mazda 626 Hatchback (1992-)
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Very cheap to buy at auction.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Mazda garage is very pricey, but efficient.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Feels very sturdy to drive and superbly smooth and quiet on the motorway. Suspension is a little soft, so it's no sportscar. Noticably slower than the 2.0-litre model that I used to own.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Fast enough for most applications and good petrol consumption too.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

    Everything seems okay for now.

Most people who see it, like it. Looks solid and sensible.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Reasonable seats, although could benefit from elevation adjustment and ride is nice and smooth. When stationary, the car is almost silent.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Doesn't have an alarm or immobiliser, but I don't think thieves would go for it anyway.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

    Dealers are okay, although expensive.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Other

My previous 626 was plagued with brake problems and wobbly calipers. It had done 125,000 miles, though.
