You are paying for the shiny badge, can't say much more than that.
Costs
If you go to a Merc dealer, yes very expensive, but go to someone like Euro parts, and can cost just as much as a standard run of the mill Ford etc.

Wallows a bit around corners, but very solid.

Just bought a c180 and I think it would leave it standing, but ok for year it was built.

Problems and Ownership

Engine
It's got 2,005,000 miles on the clock, but the engine is still running fine. Had to replace hydraulic tapets, but not an expensive job to do, very reliable.
Other
Diffs are all the same on very high mileage ones, a bit knocky and whiny rubber joints on prop shaft, can make it sound like its falling apart.
