In their own words

Poor mpg. I'm a driving instructor and cover about 40k per year. I bought the car specifically for its 88mpg claim. It was bought to replace a mini 1.5 diesel. The mini is much better on fuel even though it is heavier and more powerful. It's a lovely car but I feel cheated by it only doing 55mpg. This is what I would describe as mainly on the combined cycle. My last mini averaged 65-57 mpg when teaching pupils to drive. The car I have before the 1.5 mini had pretty much the same engine as the 208, a mini clubman. This did 65 mpg all the time. With the same driving the 208 is much worse. It's a lot lighter can than my previous minis and less powerful. On paper it should be much better. Even if it had matched the mini at 65 MPG I would have been happy. My wife has a ds4 which again is heavier and more powerful and its as good on fuel as the 208. I'm very disappointed and feel cheated. If I had know it only did 55 I would never have bought it. I intend to keep the car 5 years. In this time it will use close to an extra 10k worth of fuel.
