  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Voted best hot hatch in 1993 by which car, was worthy of that title

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Not bad for a hot hatch, especially back in 93 when i owned mine, servicing was good though Renault did do a scheme at the time for 3 years servicing and parts.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Great car, very precise steering, only my current car feels more precise in the steering department (quick rack steering fitted as standard on new car), handled like a dream on the Goodyear eagle tyres

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Great, as long as you got her above 4k, gutless otherwise.... 116lbs of torque and you didn't feel any of it, traded in after 4 years for a Pug 306 GTi-6, now that car had torque!

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

No major problems except that the sunroof rattled day one

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Was good back in 93, looks very dated now

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Was comfortable, use to do long runs out in this car so need

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Needed to fit a Clifford, standard security was ok in its day, not good now

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Dealer was a laugh, how many do you know who leave the drain plug loose on the engine after a service?

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Was fully serviced, need to keep on top of the 6k service intervals, these engines don't like it if you miss them out and doing so can be costly to you

    Other

Typical heavy Renault clutch, cables on phase 1 cars can snap, fixed on phase 2 cars, suspension on phase 1 cars needed replacing due to it snapping, turrets should be marked with a blue mark showing its been done, not a problem with phase 2 cars.
