Saab 9-3 Coupe 1998-
  • Economy

    Value

    2 out of 5 2.0

Well equipped cars with all the bits, shame about the prominent blank switches on some.

    Costs

    2 out of 5 2.0

Bad on fuel, high depreciation. Should have bought a Jaguar!

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Good drive, smooth but needs traction control which is always a little worrying with such high performance.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good performance but it will never be a BMW.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Can't fault it here. When was the last time you've seen one stuck on the side of the road?

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

It's not such a common site like many of the rivals. However, the 5dr is seen in many supermarket car parks nowadays. The coupe has got a great image (esp. in black with leather). Saab Aero accessories help.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Nice seats (esp. leather). All the bits are there. The digi-displays are of poor quality though and tend to fail. Trip computer is great.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

    Good factory-fitted alarm and immobiliser.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

High standards of service from costly garages. Specialists will only open the bonnet, so worth it in the long run.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Great engine that needs regular servicing. Neglect it and you will pay the penalty.

    Other

My car had many problems but was fixed under warranty. Neglected cars can prove to give many costly problems, so be careful. You really have to be a Saab fan to own one of these babies. It's a great car but make sure you have your wallet on standby.
