  • Summary

What does this car say about you?

This model I used to walk past in the street, staring longingly at. I've always heard that Saabs have an excellent safety record, and this car feels safe, even cruising at high speeds with the top down. Its heavy, solid and reliable.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

My parents state that this is a posers car, and I have to agree. Top down, rock music and shades on, its great fun. The kids and friends love it. As soon as the top is down, their smiles are on.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Would I buy this car again? yes I would. Although this car is 15 years old, and the seats are probably past their best (at least in the front) it is comfort to drive. The engine is solid, reliable and the only time it has given me any worry, was when the immobiliser turned on and I couldnt start it and I didnt know of it.

What are you likely to buy next?

I really love this car, and extremely happy with her. When in the future it is time to part ways, I think a 93 convertible will be the next one. I am very impressed with this manufacturer, and sorry that they have gone out of business.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Driving is wonderful. This is not the most economical of cars, except when you take it on the motorway. Around town the fuel consumption is terrible, but on the motorway it happily sip and cruises and wonderful speeds. The ride is first class. Since this is the S model, there's very little in the way of bells & whistles, but in another way, this also means less to go wrong.

    What's it like to park?

This is the only part of the car which Im not overly fond of, and its reversing. the rear window is small and doesnt give a proper view of what is behind, so you rely more on the side mirrors instead. Unless you have the top down, in which case there is no issue. I am planning on installing reversing sensors.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Wheel Bearing (drivers side) needed replacing Windscreen needed replacing when I bought it as it had a large crack straight down the middle.

What's most practical about your car?

Unlike a lot of convertibles and sportier cars I had a look at , the most deciding factor in all cases was that it had to be a family car. This seats 2 full grown adults in the back, in plenty of comfort The boot is wonderfully large, and easily accommodate the family shopping for the week, even with the top down.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Favourite gadget just has to be the roof. As soon as the sun shines, the kids demand the roof down, and I, reluctantly (yeah right!) agree.
