I can only compare it to Renault Clio, which I have driven before and it feels a touch more vague but there is plenty of grip. In the wet is a bit weird.
Performance
Good mid range, but there's too little when pulling away and then suddenly too much when the turbo kicks in.

Probably not so great. But this is down to our twisted culture. However, I would feel far more embarrassed driving a BMW.

Very nice, good driving position. Poor rear legroom. Fantastic boot.
