Toyota Celica Coupe 1986-
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

A lot of fun commuting and playing for not a lot of outlay.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

No more or less thirsty than you'd expect. Toyota servicing and parts are a bit pricy but if you can afford it it's worth the peace of mind (and they wash and valet it for you).

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Solid, unruffled, takes most corners on rails and is remarkably forgiving under pressure. But an over enthusiastic right foot in the wet is likely to turn it into an ICBM.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Beginning to show its age but for a basic 2.0i with only four cylinders and no extra whizzbangs it holds its own. 0-60 is a single gear change and you have to try hard to loose it on a corner. Does not take well to off-roading.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Radiator hoses and suspension bushes in 7 years of use and abuse - not too shabby!

    Image

    Still turns heads when clean.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent, even for drivers under 5'3"", seat and steering adjust and visibility is good. Rear seats not as small as they look. Boot is cavernous, hence the sexy coupé doubles as a sensible family hatch!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Get an alarm and immobiliser fitted. Factory security is basic and opportunists will take a pop.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

    Pricey, but thorough.
