Very good. Can understeer a bit, but depends on tyres fitted. Get soft compound tyres fitted if you can - makes BIG difference.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Like all 16-valve engines, very little power below 3,500 rpm. Wind it up and it's very good, although the wide-ratio gearbox does hold it back slightly. Good enough for most people though.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Mechanically very good, although engine sensors can be problematic. Lots of help available via Internet forums set up by Cavalier enthusiasts, which is a Godsend!

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Seen by some as an old man's car, but I'm not bothered!

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent seats. Good sound insulation. A very relaxing drive.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Standard factory fit alarm and engine management immobiliser good. Central locking deadlocks for extra security.

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Depends on dealer used, but labour costs can be excessively high.
