What does this car say about you?

I think it said i was doing quite well for myself and i was young and sporty.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everyone loved the colour and thought it was a classy looking car. SRi was near the top spec and top spec cars always look a bit better than the basic models.

Would you buy this car again and why?

It was years ago, but i would buy an Insignia SRi. And i would buy a Vauxhall again. Looking back, i wish i had spent a few hundred on it to fix the suspension and adjust the gearbox, and kept it a few more years. Only had about 65k on it when traded in.

What are you likely to buy next?

Thinking of an Astra 2.0 CDti (auto) or a Kia Cee'd (auto).

    April 1996

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes, it was about £1,500 under book price as it was sourced for a customer who dropped out and they were prepeared to do a good deal.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I wanted a that was big, good on motorways, with a big boot and a bit sporty.

    What was the dealer like?

The dealer was ok, just a small'ish garage, nothing fancy, but they were ok.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Was a very nice car to drive. Quiet up to about 80 on motorway, fast, pulled well from low revs, indicated 130 on an "airfield", powerful brakes on original Vauxhall pads. But when swapped to generic pads brakes were never as good.

    What's it like to park?

It was a big car, but it was ok to park.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

It was very reliable. I had it until it was about 13 years old.The boot central locking solenoid needed replacing. When it was old, the bushes on suspension wore and it got notchy going into 2nd gear. Other than that, just the normal wear and tear of tyres, brakes and exhaust.

What's most practical about your car?

Lots of space and a very big boot.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

My fave thing was the Anti Lock Brakes, which were not on every car of that age. Saved me on more than one occasion. Also, i loved the colour, a turquoise/azure type blue.
