  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

At 15 years old and 130,000 miles it looks like a nearly new car. This makes it great value.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Insurance is quite high as it is a group 14 car. VW Parts expensive, if sourced elsewhere it can be fixed cheaply. If driven carefully 40+ MPG can be achieved, mid 30's normal.

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Great, handles like a hot hatch should. Still makes me smile after 6 years of ownership.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Modern cars are now as fast and faster. But they don't have the feed back and fun factor that the MK2 GTI has.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

In over 6 years it has never let me down. Always starts first time.

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

Standard non modified examples have a good image. Must look good as I am always being asked if I want to sell it.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

For a 15 year old car it is still very comfortable. Heater is superb.

    1 out of 5 1.0

After market security is a must if you want to keep your GTI.

    3 out of 5 3.0

I have never used VW since owning the GTI. All work has been carried out at home using the Haynes manual.
