  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

    Mr. Boring average.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    No real comments.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Only if fuel economy was top priority.

What are you likely to buy next?

Will keep this one for a while but if I don't need 5 doors in future a GT86 is a possibility as the driving position worked well for me (6ft5in tall so this is a priority). Audi TT also a possible, probably diesel.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £18,000

When did you buy the car?

    March 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

It was ok but not generous, probably because a tradein was involved. I got less than the WhatCar guide for the tradein and paid more than the WhatCar guide for the new vehicle but did improve the original deal after haggling.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Partner did not like previous car. I need a car with plenty of legroom and good seats.

    What was the dealer like?

Friendly but firm, also did not follow up well - I found the vehicle on the VW website in VW UK stock some weeks after initially approaching the dealer. They obviously weren't trying.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Bland - no character, just a car. The first car I have had that doesn't pull well at 30 in 4th. Needs to be changed down on some hills where my 120d didn't. Very good for motorways.

    What's it like to park?

Good due to front and rear sensors.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Don't think so - brakes appear to stick on hills but I think it must have some hill start gadget that was not explained to me.

What's most practical about your car?

5 doors. Parking sensors front and rear. Fuel economy surprisingly good, gets much nearer the official figures that my 120d did.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Nothing as good as the options on my previous 1-series BMW.
