Other Volkswagen Scirocco (2008 - 2018) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

To be totally fair I don't think it says much about myself or my wife it just shows we like quality with a capital Q, this is probably because I have always some type of coupe/GT car for the past 40 years since I got a new MGB when I was 18.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Friends - quite a few went out and bought new cars from the VAG range, possibly to keep up to date with new car technology. The most interesting comment from a neighbour was that her husband was totally jealous cos he has always wanted a Scirocco but living on a small cul-de-sac where everyone has nice cars it was just accepted.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would definitely buy another Scirocco although it would be the new facelift model. It is a very comfortable car to drive and I have no problems driving in excess of three hours without a break.

What are you likely to buy next?

Been looking to swap my 2 year old Scirocco and its replacement looks like being a Scirocco 2.0 petrol R Line with DSG gearbox.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £26,000

When did you buy the car?

    September 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

Got a very good deal but before retiring I was in the motor trade for a lot of years so won't put up with salesmans bull and also I am aware of dealers profit margins on new cars.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

My wife and I have always had a 3dr coupe/GT type car as a second car for holidays and days out in.

    What was the dealer like?

The dealer I purchased from or should that be the salesman at the dealership respected the fact that I was an ex motor trader and just came with the best prices possible instead of the usual negotiating back and forth.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Absolute pleasure on the motorway and even better on winding country roads where you can power out of corners with confidence cos the car has plenty of grip and no body roll. When driving in towns I sometimes wish I had a DSG auto gear box but that would be the same with any car as I hate driving in towns and cities.

    What's it like to park?

Rearward vision does leave a lot to be desired due to the small rear window but the rear parking sensors and good door mirrors do help and most vans don't have any rear windows and people manage to park them! Could do with parking sensors at the front as the bonnet drops off sharply and it takes a bit of getting used to its length.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

This is the most reliable car I have owned, only one tiny rattle from a rear seat and it was sorted by myself in a few minutes.

What's most practical about your car?

To be totally honest I have to say that a Scirocco is not the most practical car to own but thats the same with most coupes and and despite being nearly 60 years old getting in and out is no problem although my 93 year old mother does find it a bit awkward.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Favourite gadget has to be the Dynamic Chassis Control, in Sport mode the car corners perfectly as I have proven on a race track and also on a hillclimb track - yes I do enjoy 'driving' a car.
