Gtechniq C6 Matt Dash: Quick Review

  • Gtechniq's interior dressing tested
  • Offers UV, dust, bacterial and abrasion protection
  • Expensive, but very durable

Written by Ryan Gilmore Published: 13 September 2022 Updated: 13 September 2022

There are a couple of things that an interior dressing must have to be worth your money. Anti-static (dust) and UV-resistant (sun damage) are an absolute must, but what about bacteria, or liquid spills? That’s what Gtechniq offers with the brand’s C6 Matt Dash.

C6 Matt Dash appears to be the most conclusive and durable protectant on the market, offering four months of protection from a single application. The boffins at Gtechniq are renowned for their lab-coat approach to car care, and C6 Matt Dash may just be the best example of this currently on sale. We found it easy to apply, with immediate and noticeable results. The protection far outperformed any other dressing too, just be warned that this is a rather pricy selection.

Verdict: A touch expensive, but hands down the best interior dressing on sale today.

For pure protection, nothing can get close to what this interior dressing offers. Rubbed into a dashboard you can see the trim transform visually immediately. Any tired-looking plastic is brought back beautifully, returning to a richer-looking finish complete with a slightly matte finish. The beauty of C6 Matt Dash is that it doesn’t mask any glossy plastics, it makes it look a little more satin but retains that glossy finish.

The application is simple, clean the dashboard first (we used Bilt Hamber Surfex-HD) and then spray C6 Matt Dash onto a foam applicator pad. Rub this evenly across the interior trim and wipe away any residue with a microfibre towel. Any residue was minor and the dashboard thankfully never felt sticky or overly slick to the touch. The matte finish also helped reduce any chance of glare from the sun, a genuinely useful innovation.

The durability offered by the Gtechniq is what makes it our top pick. While we’ve not had the product applied for long enough to test the four-month claim from Gtechniq, after a week there was no sign whatsoever of the matt finish degrading, a good sign that the protective qualities will still be in top shape.

What’s okay?

The smell, or lack thereof, is a little disappointing once you’ve wrapped your nose around some of the exotic scents offered by other interior dressings. No smell is better than a bad one, but when you’re treating an interior, a little smell boost while you’re cleaning is always a welcome thing.

Gtechniq C6 Matt Dash also doesn’t work as an interior cleaner, an ability that some other dressings will also do. It’s not so much of a negative as the primary task of protection is so outstanding, it’s just that this product is less versatile than examples from Autoglym or Autobrite.

Any negatives?

The only thing that really holds the Gtechniq back is the price. For 100ml it works out quick a bit more expensive than all of the other interior dressings we’ve previously tested. But as it offers more protection and durability than any of the other options, it does make a bit more sense. It’s just a pity that you only get 100ml for your money. It’s also worth noting that Gtechniq claim you need to use it all within a year.

Besides the price, the requirement for a foam applicator is a bit of a drawback when the product doesn’t ship with one. They’re relatively easy to get hold of, but it’s an extra step you’ll need to bare in mind.

How we tested it:

Gtechniq C6 Matt Dash was applied according to the instructions printed on the bottle, sprayed onto a foam applicator and applied to a section of a dashboard. It was then monitored for durability and finish, paying particular attention ot hydrophobic and anti-static properties.
