When is Father’s Day 2025?
This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday 15 June 2025. Here in the UK, we generally celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June. It’s a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation to dad – remember, no matter what the gift, it’s the thought that counts.
How did Father’s Day start?
Father’s Day is thought to have started thanks to Sonora Smart Dodd, who along with her brothers was raised by her father alone. She wanted to dedicate a day to appreciating her dad, and in 1910 the first Father’s Day was celebrated.
Father’s Day traditions can be dated back even earlier than 1910, however, including the celebration of fatherhood on St Joseph’s Day as early as the 1500s.
Who is Father’s Day for?
Father’s Day is for dads, but you can use this day to appreciate any special person in your life. It could be a father-to-be, a sibling, a friend, or anyone else. For those who don’t have a father it is a great opportunity to remember dad or anyone else that is a fatherly figure.
