Of all the aftermarket technology fittable to a car, dash cams are advancing at the fastest pace and becoming more essential for driving. The Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 impressed us with its small size, robust build quality and faultless app. For an extra pair of eyes on the road, it's a top choice.

It takes an awful lot for a dash cam to genuinely impress us these days as even entry level models will be perfectly capable, which makes the Garmin Mini 2 even more special. For a start it’s unbelievably tiny, it’s honestly the size of a car key. This means it’s never going to obscure your vision while, an important safety feature. It’s also a neatly styled gadget, free of any unnecessary design quirks and it’ll be built like granite if you’re familiar with any other Garmin product.

It may only record at 1080p and at 30fps, but the picture quality is crystal clear, even if it could do with the polarised filter that’s sold separately. The lack of a screen also keeps the price relatively affordable when compared to other premium dash cam brands.

The Garmin Dash Cam App is also the smoothest and best dash cam app we’ve come across, good news as the Garmin Mini 2 is simply too small to merit a screen. Setup is incredibly easy thanks to the straightforward layout and 24-hour recording storage on the app. A subscription service for holding onto these videos is also available.
