The Chrysler 300C safety list is impressive and standard kit includes seven airbags, comprising front, knee and curtain airbags. You can have up to 65 individual safety features, and the 300C has been awarded a five star EuroNCAP rating. Standard safety systems include anti-lock brakes, stability control with hill start assist and pedestrian protection.

The 300C also features Rain Brake Support that keeps the brake pads dry for improved braking performance as well as Braking Assistance, which applies maximum braking power in emergency situations. There’s also Chrysler’s Enhanced Accident Response System that automatically illuminates the interior lights, engages the hazard warning lights and unlocks the doors and stops the flow of fuel going to the engine after an accident.

The top-spec Executive model adds Blind Spot Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control and a rather intrusive Forward Collision Warning that alerts drivers so if it thinks an accident is imminent. Optional extras include Rear Cross Path Detection that informs drivers via icons in the mirror and with an acoustic signal if traffic is approaching as they reverse out of parking spaces.

The Executive also includes ParkSense that helps detect stationary objects behind the car and warns the driver with an acoustic signal. It is also equipped with a rear-view camera.

The 300C has plenty of nooks and crannies where you can put stuff, starting with a sizeable central storage bin that you can slide back and forth. Inside the compartment there are power connectors for USB devices, while all door pockets feature large stowage spaces with bottle holders. There’s also a storage compartment with lighting ahead of the gear lever and a capacious split-shelf glove compartment.

The two front cup holders are cooled and heated and they come with LED lighting that glows blue when they’re chilled, and red when hot. They also feature locking rings so they can take bottles of various sizes. So, it delivers in the cabin, but no so much in the boot. The loading area is only 481 litres – easily big enough for a set of golf clubs – and you can pull down the rear seats to fit in longer items.

There’s not a huge amount of rear head-room, so larger passengers will be better off up front.
