Big brother could soon be watching every move fleet drivers make.

Telematics company Trimble has announced a monitoring system that studies and reports back on the driving behaviour of company car drivers.

It uses a ‘traffic light', system that alerts the driver as to whether they're driving in an acceptable manner or not. Green means you're doing fine, yellow means a warning and red means you're driving dangerously.

The system uses inputs that monitor vehicle speed, rapid acceleration, harsh braking and cornering too quickly to determine how the driver is operating the vehicle.

The information is also fed back to your fleet controller, the data used to identify bad drivers and the requirement for training. It's possible the system could also be used to identify good drivers as part of a reward scheme.
