The Qubo may not have been been crash tested by Euro NCAP but the near identical Citroen Nemo Multispace was only awarded three stars out of five by the organisation. This was under the tougher regime which is now one overall rating that takes into account adult occupant safety as well as child and pedestrian protection and a rear impact whiplash test.
Part of the problem is that the Nemo isn’t available with ESP stability control, even as an optional extra and doesn’t have a curtain airbag as standard. This is also the case with the Qubo. However it does have Isofix child seat mounting points on the outer rear seats, twin front airbags, side airbags (incorporated into the sides of the front seats) and seatbelt pre-tensioners.
With the rear seats removed, the Qubo has a maximum of 2,500 litres of luggage/cargo space. To put this into context, a 2007 Ford Mondeo estate offers a maximum of 1,733 litres. With the seats in place the Qubo has 330 litres of storage up to the parcel shelf. The rear passenger doors slide, which is a great advantage in tight supermarket car parks, plus it makes installing child seats simple.
There’s good stowage in the front too – the glove compartment is supposedly deep enough to accommodate a laptop computer. However, the Qubo loses a point for its top-hinged tailgate that requires a considerable space behind the car for loading and unloading.
