Ford Cougar Coupe engines, drive and performance
1998 - 2002
(change model)
Two engines to choose from, a 2.0 litre four-cylinder or a 2.5 litre V6. The V6 is the obvious choice for those seeking the ultimate driver’s car, it sounds good and goes well too. However the 2.0 makes a more sensible choice as it is cheaper to run but is less numerous than the V6. Both units were available with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.
It’s pretty hard to fault the Cougar for its handling. It puts its power down effectively and tackles twisty roads with confidence. Stable at speed, although the ride is a bit harsh at lower speeds. It’s not really a sportscar, but enjoyable to drive all the same.
