Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 34 - 62 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Diesels provide eye-catching mpg figures, but all models offer good economy. Ford's warranty is for three years, but unlike some competitors, it's not unlimited mileage. Mechanical parts are fairly cheap, because they're shared with the Focus hatchback, and insurance is competitive and servicing reasonable.

The Focus C-MAX performs very well on the eco front. With an average of 156g/km CO2 across the model line-up, its emissions are relatively low for a people carrier. Eco-conscious buyers should consider the 90bhp 1.6-litre diesel, which is one of the greenest models in the range emitting 119g/km of CO2 (making it cheap to tax) and returning 60mpg.

Reports to about reliability and build quality are mostly positive. The previous generation Focus hatchback won a German reliability survey and the hatchback, estate and saloon versions of both the first and second generation Focus models have proved very durable.
