What is miles per pound?

Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 25 - 32 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The LS is quite pricey when new, but much better equipped than its rivals. Fuel consumption is claimed to be 26.4mpg for the LS 460 while the 600h returns 32.8. Although servicing will be on the high side, it will be lower than Mercedes-Benz and BMW rates. Depreciation is expected to be steep throughout the car’s life. Expect it to retain about one third of its original cost after three years.

The LS performs badly on the eco front. With an average of 261g/km CO2 across the range, its emissions are quite high for an executive saloon. There are no diesels in the line-up but the LS600h emits 199g/km of CO2. That’s impressive considering it has around 400bhp and weighs more than two tonnes, while the LS 460 has CO2 emissions of 249g/km

Lexus has an excellent reputation for reliability, and although the LS contains some very sophisticated systems, no major problems are expected.
