As with all Mercedes-Benz cars there are no deadlocks, but that’s a sign of how highly they rate safety. Six airbags come standard (front, side and head airbags for both front seat occupants) and an electronic stability programme is fitted to all models. Rear side airbags are optional but there’s no Euro NCAP crash test rating.
It may be a two-door, but accessing the rear seats isn’t too difficult, provided you’re fairly agile. The boot is fairly small at 276-litres but this isn’t bad for a convertible car – helped by the fact that the roof is made of fabric and is more space efficient than modern convertibles with a folding metal roof. There’s no need to stretch behind for seatbelts either – after closing the door, front seat occupants are handed their seatbelts as an electric arm extends from behind your shoulder.
Operating the roof is easy too – it’s just a press of the button on the centre console. There’s also a remote option on the key fob. The roof itself folds in 17 seconds and stows away behind a flush cover. Raising it again it takes 20 seconds but it can be operated when the car is moving (up to 5mph).
