The SL provides high standards of safety for its age with driver, passenger and side airbags are fitted as standard. Newer models in the SL range also feature a clever passenger recognition system, which distinguishes whether seats are being occupied, preventing passenger airbags from activating if the seats are unused and saving on replacing needlessly inflated bags.

Most key features in the cabin are fully adjustable and electrically controlled, enabling multi-functional fine-tuning at minimum effort for the driver and passengers. The boot space is by no means cavernous, but it is plentiful, coping easily with moderate sized luggage or shopping. Sportscars are not designed for frequent back seat use, and although the kids should have ample legroom, adults might find it a touch claustrophobic.
