Choice of three 16-valve petrol engines: 1.6i E and S models; 1.8i S, Sport and SE; 2.0i S, Sport, Sport+, SE and SE+. Diesel alternatives are the 2.0 TD – in E, S and SE versions. All models have multi-link independent suspension, 5-speed manual gearbox (or optional ‘Hypertronic’ CVT continuously variable transmission on 2.0 S/SE, or ‘Hypertronic M6’ 6-speed sequential CVT on Sport+ and SE+).

Dull to look at, but pretty good on the road. Chassis is responsive, and there’s lots of grip for confident cornering. One of the only gripes is that it can feel rather unwieldy and could benefit from a tighter turning circle for town driving. Multi-link suspension soaks up every knock and bump in the road, providing a pleasant ride and good body control.

The firmer set-up on Sport+ models will suit the keener driver.
