Nissan Primera Hatchback engines, drive and performance
1999 - 2002
(change model)
Primera boasts three smooth 16v petrol engines. The 1.6 is adequate, the 1.8 lively and the 2.0 is brisk. The only weak link is the 2.0 turbo-diesel unit, which is noisy and offers pedestrian performance.
Bland looking, but a polished performer with a responsive chassis that gives good handling and lots of grip. Easy to drive, but could benefit from a tighter turning circle for town driving. Multi-link suspension soaks up every knock and bump in the road, providing a pleasant ride and good body control. The firmer set-up on Sport+ models will suit the keener driver.
