What is miles per pound?
Fuel economy
A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test.
Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 23 - 43 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The Espace offers reasonable running costs and Renault servicing is competitive. However, emissions are quite high and there are no especially frugal engines in the range.
The Espace performs fairly badly on the eco front. With an average of 213g/km CO2 across the range, its emissions are a little high for a people carrier. The 2.0 dCi engine is the most efficient – it returns 39mpg and emits 188g/km of CO2.
The Espace is now built by Renault (sounds bizarre, but previously it was manufactured by another French firm on behalf of Renault). If feels sturdier and better built than before, but recent Renaults have had only average reliability.
