The five-door Megane is one of the safest cars in its class according to official independent crash tests and the three-door Renaultsport has been designed to the same rigorous standards – it’s also built on the same production line. All models come with electronic stability control, as well as front and side airbags, and front and rear curtain airbags, although it was downgraded to three stars in 2014 due to more rigorous testing methods.

The sleek styling of the Coupe has compromised the car’s practicality compared to a conventional three-door hatchback, but boot volume isn’t a great deal less than the previous three-door Megane. Like other models in the range there is plenty of storage in the cabin, including large door pockets and under-floor stowage bins, as well as the glove compartment and storage in the arm-rest between the front seats.
