Renault has been a leader in safety with a list of strong performances in official independent crash tests. Renault Megane Sport Tourer safety is helped by the eight airbags that come as standard as well as electronic stability control. The hatchback version has already scored the maximum points score available in 2008 for occupant protection in the Euro NCAP tests – 37 points out of 37, although it was downgraded to three stars in 2014 due to more rigorous testing methods.

The Megane Sport Tourer has some clever ideas and is a thoroughly practical estate car despite its plunging roofline at the rear. There is an underfloor storage compartment for the luggage blind and in volume terms it offers more space than some cars in the class above. Maximum luggage volume up to roof height of 1,600 litres is just a few short of the Renault Laguna Sport Tourer and larger than cars like the Vauxhall Insignia Sport Tourer and Honda Accord Tourer.

There is a maximum load length of more than 2.5 metres while up front the cabin has plenty of useful storage areas including underfloor cubby holes.
