Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 33 - 43 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

A cheap runabout with reasonable fuel consumption. It holds its value abnormally well, but it is a little expensive in comparison to modern rivals that offer far more for your money. However, if you’re happy to pay a premium for its quirky nostalgia, you can save money on cheap repairs, especially if you do them yourself, as low price parts are readily available and reasonably straightforward to fit.

As with any older car, senior Minis will need regular servicing and plenty of tender loving care. When buying an aging model, pay particular notice of the service history and number of previous owners, as hard-driven cars tend to wear out fairly quickly and will not represent a sound investment. Although the engines are fairly reliable, the interior trim and switches are a little brittle over time and untended bodywork is also prone to rust.
