Rover Streetwise Hatchback engines, drive and performance
2003 - 2005
(change model)
1.4 petrol is fine for town work , but slow on the motorway, especially fully laden. Go for a 1.6 for better everyday performance or the 1.8 for a bit of oomph. 2.0 diesel is a better option for those travelling greater distance. It’s not the most refined oil-burner, but it gives 47mpg and offers decent performance.
Reasonably firmly sprung, but comfortable to drive on most roads. But just like the 25 and MG ZR, it’s fun to drive and is up for being thrown ’round corners. Don’t get any ideas about it being an off-roader: gravel car parks are as adventurous as you should get – a muddy field would be a true adventure.
