The Vitara name has long been associated with the Japanese manufacturer and was made famous in the late 1980s with its SUV looks and off-road abilities. It kicked off the 4x4 lifestyle sector in 1989 and changed the perception that 4x4 vehicles were only meant for utilitarian purposes.
The Suzuki Grand Vitara, as the name implies, is bigger than the standard Vitara and first arrived in UK showrooms in 1998. It had chunky looks, an improved interior, more comfortable ride and more safety kit.
In 2001 the long-wheelbase Grand Vitara arrived that could seat five people with a large boot, or a seven-seat version could be specified.
