What does this car say about you?

That I wanted something different from the humdrum cars that roll around my local area. A good blend of fun and practicality.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They all love the looks of the car, think it's very quick for the size of engine. Everyone admires the interior. Often get asked if it is reliable and so far I reply with a yes. Couple of Alfa Romeo owners report it's not as pretty as past Alfas but I can live with that.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would buy another Alfa Romeo now that I've returned and dipped my toe back in the water. Perhaps a more adventurous Alfa like a Brera. We'll see what comes out.

What are you likely to buy next?

A coupe like an Alfa Brera or a GT. I've often thought about something German but find them a little...souless.

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    £9,500

When did you buy the car?

    January 2014

Did you get a good deal and why?

Well I got a good deal on my part exchange Vauxhall and it came with a years warranty. It was already one of it's cheapest around for the spec I wanted.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I've wanted another Alfa Romeo after the relationship with my previous Alfa ended disastorously (Gearbox issues). I just wanted more reliability to go with that Italian soul.

    What was the dealer like?

Helpful. Not pushy. What you would want from a dealership I suppose.

    What's it like to drive?

I love driving my Alfa! I hear people complaining about the DNA system. But ulitmately once you get used to it's brilliant. In Dynamic the power is immense and the handling spot on. Yes in town the steering is a tad heavy and in traffic the accelertion can be a little jerky. But then I just put it back into Normal where the steering lightens up. All weather came in handy when I went through snow. The traction control is superb. I passed struggling traffic with ease. I'm being picky here but in all these modes the steering perhaps lacks feedback. I still rate this car as one of the best to drive I've owned. Fantastic grip, power, great brakes. Never get bored of it.

    What's it like to park?

Easy enough. The pillars seem a little big so visibility could be better. But not as bad as some cars.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

No nothing yet. First can be a little stiff if I haven't let the engine/transmission warm up. It the rear wiper sometimes has a mind of it's own and stops in the middle of the window but I'm not fussed with that. Once the hill assist decided it didnt want to release the brakes. Luckily I was sat in a layby. I switched off the ignition, switched back on and everything was okay again.

What's most practical about your car?

I quite like the centre console cubby hole. I can keep the sat nav and sunglasses in there. There's also a hole for your phone which goes in perfectly.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Probably the bluetooth as it configured for Windows smart phones which I have. So it reads/sends text messages through my voice. On par with that I would say 'Dynamic' mode.
