• Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

That practicality is your top priority rather than looks.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

You 'll get a few comments about your "van" but it's a different story if they want to transport their washing machine and tumble drier ! Seriously people are impressed with the space and economy and I've never had a car which has invited so many questions from other drivers.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Whilst I have a requirement for a dual purpose vehicle this would still be top of the list, I look forward to a new version which must be due soon.

What are you likely to buy next?

If circumstances remain the same I would seriously consider another Berlingo, but after five years and almost 80000 miles there is no reason to dispose of the present one.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

THE ABILITY TO BE A VAN OR CARRY 5 PEOPLE

    What was the dealer like?

We tried our local dealer but they were not paticularly helpful about a test drive so went a dealership about 50 miles from home who were more welcoming and they got the sale.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Remarkably pleasant drive, the now discontinued 1.9D is sluggish but when wound up it is acceptable in most circumstances including motorway work, loading makes very little difference to performance. Handling, considering the height is quite amazing, and once you have gained in confidence it can be hustled along a country road without any qualms. All major controls work well, although some switches are not ideally placed.

    What's it like to park?

Being tall, I find it easy but shorter drivers may struggle to see the front corners. The outstanding door mirrors make reverse parking simple even when the rear window is obscured by a load.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

NO work under normal warranty, heater plugs replaced after about 3 years and subsequently replaced under parts warranty, odd misfire on rare occasions (perhaps 6 times in 78000 miles)but has always cured itself before reaching a garage. Original exhaust replaced in 4th year, original battery still going strong, not bad for a diesel.

What's most practical about your car?

The ability to transform from a van to a roomy estate, and the sliding rear doors.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

You don't buy a Berlingo for options or gadgets !
