  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Level of equipment very high. The additional 'X' gives you a host of useful extras over the Ghia, such as electric sunroof, full leather, cruise control, heated front seats.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Service intervals every 12.5k miles, which keeps costs down, despite Ford's insistance on finding the slightest fault for maximum cost!

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

500% improvement on the old Mondeo estate. Handles incredibly well for an estate. Composed at any speed.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Excellent power delivery and torque does not drop off as quickly as some other TDs.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

No breakdowns. On first service, rear washer jet was faulty (covered under warranty). Have recently noticed an engine vibration when idle.

For an estate, the Ghia X with 18"" alloys, navy blue paint and full black leather, looks pretty good.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Built for long motorway journeys. Call me fussy, but this range topping Mondeo does not come with rain sensing wipers. The LCD displays on climate control and dials are of the dull, non-lit black on grey variety (very 80s).

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Deadlocks and high spec manufacturers alarm. No problems yet.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Ford seem hell bent on fault finding during servicing. I was told my tyres needed changing as they only had 3.5mm left. The law is 1.6mm! Good for another 6 months or so!
