Other Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    3 out of 5 3.0

What does this car say about you?

I have a Jaaaaag....errmmm...well. It's a Jag and some like it, others envy you for having one. It isn't the obvious choice for my age group.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Mixed. Some think it's for gangsters and others think it has a nice image. Maybe that makes me a gangster with image issues?

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, size is the key thing. The rear seats arent's up to transporting 3 in comfort over 30mins. The engine needs more refinement and flexibility. However, overall, it's really not a bad car at all.

What are you likely to buy next?

    A Volvo, Skoda or Subaru.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,000

When did you buy the car?

    January 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

It was an OK deal, however I bought the car almost on a whim and have had to pay the price since.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Had the 3.0 saloon and liked it, just wanted a more frugal one with a larger boot.

    What was the dealer like?

    Reasonable.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Not a bad drive at all. Holds the road well and despite the FWD limitation, is no slouch in the turn. The 2.0D engine isn't exactly sonorous, in fact, it's pretty un-Jaguar like in its lack of relative refinement, but it is pretty useful The short gearing is a little annoying as I find myself haivng to drive in low gears often to avoid potential stalling.

    What's it like to park?

    Easy peasy with rear sensors.

  • Living with it

    3 out of 5 3.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Clutch, DMF, power steering pump, water pump, rear suspension shocks, bushes and control arms. However, in the car's defence, it had done over 100Kmiles and I hadn't done my homework. Still, the mechanic says it'll now go one for another 100K without a care.

What's most practical about your car?

    The boot.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Really a fairly fuss free car, not very many gadgets in here, however, the boot is useful and a bit of a fave.
