Other Jaguar XF (2008 - 2015) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Says I like a bit of style with my driveability. That could imply I think current German cars lack aesthetic. You might infer I am not prepared to pay the extra for a Bentley, Aston or Tesla Model S.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They are - rightly - impressed with the car and my choice.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Put it this way, if I saw a later model with the active dampers for sale at the right price I might trade up.

What are you likely to buy next?

At the moment, I'm thinking an XE might fit the bill down the line.

  • Buying experience

    3 out of 5 3.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £17,000

When did you buy the car?

    October 2015

Did you get a good deal and why?

It was win-win and I'm happy with that. Manufacturers (in Europe anyway) have taken over the downstream market and it's more difficult than it used to be to buy privately, so I looked for a dealer with a modern attitude and think I found one.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Wanted a sports coupe and this won over the Audi/Merc/BMW competition.

    What was the dealer like?

Professional: informative, efficient, responsive and respectful. Too many salespeople don't appreciate this is a big - and regular - purchase. I can't stand the casual attitudes, ignorance and bs which are still typical of this industry.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

The real satisfaction comes from the super-smooth torque.

    What's it like to park?

Lack of rear viz is the price you pay for that fastback, partially compensated by the CCTV and sensors. If you doubt your ability or act slack you might find it demanding.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

    Not yet :-).

What's most practical about your car?

Acceleration. Also, it gets some respect from lorry drivers and white van man (if not sadly bus drivers who often assume their service role gives them precedence over private road users).

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

I'm not generally impressed by gadgets, but passengers always smile at the 'Thunderbirds are Go' swivelling air vents. 'Dynamic' switch confers proper cornering ability - cannot understand why it is not in that mode by default.
