  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

That I am someone who likes gadgets, reliability and something just that little bit left of field.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They approve. Children love the rear as it has good cupholders built into the rear armrest. They love the gadgets too.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Absolutely. Try buying a Mondeo/ Vectra with the same spec and you'll pay more and get a higher mileage car (That's probably less reliable)

What are you likely to buy next?

    Not sure....

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £3,400

When did you buy the car?

    October 2008

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes. The saloon is not as loved as the hatch and the DI not as popular as the DCI. The seller had owned the car from new and had serviced it regularly. It was due a large service which enabled me to haggle the price down further. (I have since done for £140 in parts). I had been watching the car on ebay and it had not sold (The seller had not advertised it well and showed not interior pics. A shame as the car is specced with leather and SAT NAV)

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

These cars are the bargain of the moment. Cheap to insure, powerful, well specced and ultra reliable. Fitted with a chain rather than a cambelt, the engine doesn't need major work until 150k!

    What was the dealer like?

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Great on the motorway. Clutch is heavy around town and in stop start traffic. Quite a lot of body roll in corners. Diesel needs stoking to get the power out.

    What's it like to park?

Easy - its got a reversing camera!. Front feels longer than it is. Turning circle isn't great, especially with the overhangs.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Only had it a couple of days. I serviced it today and it was really straight forward. The hardest part was locating the pollen filter (Point of reference, you must undo the glovebox as the filter is located behind it). I drove it back from Dorset and managed to get 150 miles out of a 1/4 of a tank averaging 50 MPG. Not bad considering it was due a service and hadn't been driven for nearly two months.

What's most practical about your car?

Massive passenger room. Ginormous boot (Though apperture is a tad small on the saloon) The marvellous reversing camera is a great parking aid.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The reversing camera, the heater/stereo/navigation console. Make it so Mr Data!
