It's white, unmodified with not a mark on it. Says I'm young and enjoy driving without being all boy racer-ish. Looks genuinely sporty without showing off.

Looking at Mazda MX-5, Audi A3 diesel or 306 again.

    What's it like to drive?

Phenomenal handling...it craves to be thrown into corners and always puts a smile on your face. Feels so light, agile, flat and responsive. 1.6 engine is an excellent balance...40 mpg, torque through all the rev range. Does seem to have a flat spot low down though. 1st and 2nd gear ratios are useless for traffic light rushes. Motorway driving is also impressive with consistent economy at all speeds, plenty of power available and a perfectly balanced 5th gear ratio to get the most out of the engine. It's not 'brisk', but it is well balanced, fun and very refined for a 1990's design.

    What's it like to park?

Very easy- you can see the front of the bonnet and the rear is flat so there's always more space than you think you have. power steering is a must.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Starts first time every time. Bombproof proven engine, all mechanics very familiar with it. Never broken down and never will. However, very niggly faults have caused annoyance- notchy gearbox, sharp clutch, burning oil and general stutteryness that no-one can diagnose. Then again nothing has actually broken and it's got 114k on the clock...served me well for the £600 I brought it for.

What's most practical about your car?

Big boot, nice electric sunroof (good build quality). Engine fairly easy to pull apart yourself. Comfy seats and I love the offset pedals. Big windows so can see all around easily.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Electric sunroof works a treat providing you keep the mechanism greased up. 4 wheel abs is also a nice bonus.
