Other Volkswagen Polo (2002 - 2009) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

I like a bit of style, quality, and pace.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everyone that has seen it has been really impressed. The GTI touches really lift it from standard Polos. It doesn't look aftermarket special like its rivals, yet still feels special.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, as long as it stays reliable and I dont need to do higher mileages.

What are you likely to buy next?

A Golf GTI or Leon FR. Only for the better chassis polish. I just couldn't justify the much higher price to get this age/mileage Golf/Leon at the time of purchase.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £7,000

When did you buy the car?

    May 2014

Did you get a good deal and why?

The car was on the steep side, but I got a discount before viewing to make sure the epic trip to view it was worthwhile. I still feel it was good value, as it had only done 32,000 miles from new. A year's warranty was included as I bought it from a VW dealer, which was a bonus on 6 year old car.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I wanted something well made, that felt special and was both swift and comfortable.

    What was the dealer like?

Helpful and friendly, though they messed up some admin and my documents did not arrive. That was a pain to sort out.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Swift, with an addictively meaty punch from the engine. It growls rather than screams like the Clio or Civic, thriving more on torque than raw power. It definately feels more gt than gti most of the time, but that is what I was looking for. The suspension is firm enough to be sharp to drive, but perfectly comfortable on long drives, plus the engine is not buzzing away as some have suggested. Steering is nice and weighty at speed, if lacking in some feedback.

    What's it like to park?

A piece of cake, especially with the dealer fit parking sensors. Really easy to see out of.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

The window switch popped into the armrest, but that was a simple fix. Nothing major so far. Touch wood!

What's most practical about your car?

Most things. The little dash shelves are particulaly useful.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

It came with a dealer fit iPod adapter, which means it keeps the OEM look while giving me the music I want. That and the fantastic plaid seats.
