Other Volkswagen Polo (2000 - 2002) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

You care about image, you want to be safe, and you care about reliability. It will be enough for you to gain respect on the road. I'd never go near a peugeot, citroen, renault etc after this - It became like having my own Herbie!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everyone loved it. Had 15" BSX Lenso Split rims so looked like a GTI - got a lot of comments, stood out, especially in the Mercato Metallic Blue - Don't know why VW ever stopped producing cars in that paint!

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. So reliable, so well built, in general a brilliant little car. Defintely recommend to anybody!

What are you likely to buy next?

    Would love a 2006/07 Polo/Golf GTI

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Compared to my previous 1997 Polo: A dream. it's nothing special, but feels solid. Gearbox is typical of great German build quality, however reverse gear can be hit and miss ( i think it's a quirky feature - exactly the same as my other Polo) Easy to manouvere, not overly nippy however. Perfect first car, or second car. Great when you see another 6N2 on the road, especially if it's been modified tastefully.

    What's it like to park?

So easy, You have electric mirrors as standard, and great visibility, it's fairly tiny compared to the latest Polo and its pre-decessor's. I did find myself wondering where it was parked at times!

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Central Locking barells went after a few months, cost £50 to fix, lasted 7 years up until then. Apart from that it's been so reliable, however I know the electric windows do slow down - abit of WD-40 always fixes that!

What's most practical about your car?

Interior Central Locking button, Stubby side mirror, large windows, small and agile. It's a perfect car for town. when petrol prices weren't extortionate, my 1.4 would last on £20 for a whole week, driving 6 days a week!!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

third sunvisor, cup holder, or the GTI honeycombe kit i put on it.
