BMW 2-Series verdict

The exploding popularity of SUVs and tightening emissions standards mean the BMW 2 Series now exists in a class of one. Without any competition, BMW could have just phoned this one in, but this is a great car – the M240i in particular. It has some flaws, but they don’t ruin the overall package.
What we like
Any BMW 2 Series is a satisfying car to drive – especially the hugely fast M240i.It’s also plenty roomy enough for two people plus a couple of weeks of luggage; all the engines are very efficient for the performance they offer, as well.
What we don’t like
The 220i and 230i don’t feel sporty enough for a small coupe, and the ride quality will be just too firm for some – even though the seats are perfectly comfortable. The four-cylinder engines sound a bit uncouth, and the back seats could be more adult-friendly in a car this size.
