Should you buy a BMW 2 Series Coupe?

If you're in the market for an upmarket, sporty number with space to carry four people and their stuff without serious compromise and be able to enjoy the driving experience, too, then the BMW 2 Series Coupe is the default choice.

In part that's because it has so few direct rivals these days given most manufacturers have given up producing coupes in favour of a rich seam of profits offered by SUVs, but even if most car-makers sold similar cars, we've little doubt the BMW would remain at or near the top of the class given the depths of its strengths.

More useable than an Audi TT Coupe, Toyota GT86 or a Subaru BRZ, the only rival of recent times that made more sense from a practical perspective was the now-discontinued Volkswagen Scirocco, but the 2 Series was a far better drive anyway.

So, which to go for? If performance is more your thing, it's difficult to ignore the M2 Competition and M2 CS models, but the 220d is a fine choice in the real world, balancing speed with efficiency.

Go for it with the automatic gearbox, M Sport trim, a bright metallic colour for the paint and the Tech Pack II option bundle.
