Should you buy one?

Yes. If you’re looking for a luxury sports car that does just about everything, the BMW M4 is a fine choice. The looks may be controversial but if you can get past them, or even enjoy them, there is very little to fault the M4 on.

A well-judged blend of performance and usability, teamed with an exceptional cabin and onboard technology make it one of the best-rounded BMW M cars ever and go a long way to justifying its admittedly hefty price tag.

Ultimately an Audi RS5 isn’t quite as sweet to drive and the Mercedes C-Class AMG is a touch more obnoxious, but both make fantastic choices too. While the Lexus RC F feels ancient in comparison.

What we like

Fast and fun when you want it to be, comfortable enough for running to the shops or commuting in the rest of the time. The addition of all-wheel drive adds a bit of winter-proofing and does very little to change the delicate balance of the car.

What we don’t like

There are cheaper options out there that provide nine tenths of the performance for much less money.
