For the first time the 6-Series Convertible comes with an active bonnet safety system for optimum pedestrian protection. At speeds between 12mph and 34mph, if the car is in a collision with a pedestrian, actuators raise the bonnet at the front and rear. This rapid movement creates greater deformation space under the bonnet for enhanced impact-absorbing capacity, reducing the risk of serious injury to the pedestrian.

Other standard kit includes front and side airbags. It also comes with active roll over protection system in the event of an accident and run-flat tyres with a Tyre Pressure Warning Indicator. Rear ISOFIX child seat attachments are standard. To aid driving performance and enhance safety the vehicle comes with Brake Fade Compensation, Brake Pre-Tensioning and Hill-Start Assistant features to ensure optimum brake performance and driver comfort.

The car has not been tested by Euro NCAP but we expect it to achieve the top five-star rating.

Convertibles are not known for spaciousness but the 6-Series has a decent sized boot. With the hood in place there’s 350 litres of space. If you want wind-in-your-hair motoring then the boot decreases to 300 litres. However, that’s still the same size of loadspace as you would find in a Skoda Fabia hatchback. There are a few cubbies for loose change but the door pockets are a little on the narrow side.
