BMW Z4 M boot space, practicality and safety
The Roadster scored four out of five stars in official Euro NCAP crash tests, which is respectable for a convertible, and the more sturdy Coupe would perform as well. All the latest electronic driver aids for optimising braking, stability and traction are fitted, as are four airbags. Where other Z4s have run-flat tyres, which can still be driven in the event of a puncture, the M versions have normal tyres and come with a tyre repair system and a puncture warning alarm.
The boot capacity is less useable than the standard Z4 due to the relocation of the battery to the boot, which takes a 40-litre bite out of the overall capacity and makes it a more awkward shape. It means it’s hard to carry traditional rectangular hard suitcases for a weekend away. The coupe has slightly more space than the roadster and if you release the luggage cover and don’t mind losing the view out the back window, it will carry a fair bit more.
There are a number of storage areas between and behind the seats, as well as the glovebox and small bin in each door.
