MINI has revived a historic badge and new paint colour for its latest special edition model: the Sidewalk Convertible. This one is restricted to a limited run of 150 models and throws in a number of desirable options for free.

Based on the MINI Cooper S, the Sidewalk features an automatic gearbox and high level of equipment as standard, plus a limited-edition design for the seats and soft-top roof.

What engine does it have?

The normal 2.0-litre turbocharged unit you get in a Cooper S, with 192hp and a characterful note from the exhaust when you accelerate.

This version comes exclusively with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, for lightning fast shifts whether left to its own devices or controlled with the steering wheel mounted paddles.

We ran a hatchback version of the Cooper S as a long termer in 2019, and enjoyed its agile handling and rapid turn of speed. The Convertible MINI is just as good, and adds the appeal of open air driving.

What’s so special about it then?

Well for a start it features new Deep Laguna metallic paint, similar in tone to the Kingfisher Blue available on the original Sidewalk.

You also get a special bonnet design and pin stripes, with Sidewalk badging on the wings and door sills. A set of 17-inch ‘Scissor Spoke’ alloys is also specific to this model.

The roof is decorated with an exclusive Arrow design, and can be opened or closed electronically in 18 seconds like the regular car.

Any changes inside?

There’s a new seat design with anthracite leather, Sidewalk badging and blue and yellow contrasting highlights. You also get a badge on the steering wheel and dashboard accents in blue and silver, plus a standard Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi and head-up display as standard.

Otherwise the Sidewalk features more tech available elsewhere in the range, such as the 8.8-inch touchscreen courtesy of the Navigation Plus Pack.

This of course also adds sat-nav, Real Time Traffic Information and wireless charging. The Comfort Plus Pack includes heated seats, front and rear parking sensors and rear view camera. MINI Sidewalk Convertible available to order now, costs £34,215, and production will commence in March 2020.
