Renault EV prices cut by up to £3,000 with new grant

Renault has combined the Government’s £1,500 Electric Car Grant with its existing offers to cut EV prices by up to £3,000

Renault has slashed the cost of its entire electric car line-up by up to £3,000 for retail finance buyers – combining a new £1,500 Electric Car Grant (ECG) with existing manufacturer deposit contributions.

The savings apply to the Renault 4, Renault 5, Scenic (below) and Megane E-Tech models, all of which qualify for the Government’s Band 2 grant criteria because they are built in Europe. The grant is available immediately on orders placed from 16 July, with prices now starting from £21,495 for the Renault 5.

Crucially, Renault is keeping its deposit contributions at pre-grant levels, meaning buyers get the full £1,500 saving on top of existing offers. That takes the total potential discount to £3,000, with APR rates as low as 0% on some models.

Renault’s biggest sellers stand to benefit most. The Renault 5 E-Tech can now be financed from £219 per month at 5.9% APR. The Scenic, Car of the Year in 2024, drops to £319 per month with a range of up to 379 miles. The Renault 4 and Megane E-Tech also see significant price cuts, with all models now under £37,000.

‘We have been asking Government to match its environmental ambition with action to accelerate demand for electric vehicles, and it has delivered,’ said Adam Wood, Managing Director of Renault UK. ‘It’s pleasing to see every 100% electric model in our line-up qualify for the Electric Car Grant.’

What this means for you

If you were already looking at a Renault EV, the maths just got better. The combination of a £1,500 grant and manufacturer finance support means monthly payments are lower without the brand clawing back the saving elsewhere.

With all models starting under £37,000, Renault’s EV range now sits in a sweet spot between affordable mass-market and premium rivals. And with finance from £219 a month, you could be paying less than for some petrol or hybrid alternatives.

This is also a limited-time window to buy before demand and potential waiting times creep up – grants like this often stimulate a short-term sales surge.

Editor’s view: The most appealing EVs out there just became more, er, appealing

To be fair, Renault didn’t need to offer any discounts on the 4 or 5 – they’re just brilliant already. And yet, they’ve made them cheaper, which just adds a cherry on top. The ECG hasn’t diluted its deposit contributions, which means buyers are seeing the full effect in their pockets.

The Renault 5 is a particularly tempting package now – stylish, great to drive and with a proper 252-mile range. The Parkers Car of The Year-winning Scenic, meanwhile, is one of the few family-sized EVs that can comfortably go well over 300 miles on a charge, and be a great deal of fun to drive in the process.

As ever, keep your wits about you. Finance examples are based on low annual mileage, so check the fine print if you do more.
