Smart UK has launched a new £1,500 EV grant for the #1 and #3, bringing total savings up to £3,500 and prices from £31,495.

Smart has launched its own £1,500 EV grant to boost affordability across its all-electric #1 and #3 models. The offer stacks on top of existing discounts, bringing total savings of up to £3,500 for the Smart #1 and £2,500 for the Smart #3, with low-rate finance available across the range.

With 0% APR and a typical PCP deal from £315 per month (with a £1,461 deposit), the Smart #1 now starts at £31,495 after discounts. The Smart #3 is available from £34,495. The initiative is designed to give immediate clarity and confidence in Smart’s pricing while the industry adapts to the Government’s updated electric car grant.

The Smart #1 and #3 SUV both offer long driving ranges – 273 miles and 283 miles respectively – along with strong performance, premium tech and a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. The new grant is available now through Smart dealers, and re-establishes its positive competitive position with its closest rival, the also-discounted Volvo EX30.

Jason Allbutt, CEO of Smart, said: ‘In line with our commitment to opening minds toward electric mobility, our #1 and #3 already offer exceptional value for money. This initiative will provide customers with immediate confidence in their access to Smart’s most competitive prices, avoiding leaving buyers in limbo while the industry adapts to evolving external influences.’

What this means for you

If you’re in the market for a small or mid-size electric SUV, this new £1,500 grant makes the Smart #1 and #3 more affordable – and being largely based on Chinese technology, it was highly unlikely they would qualify for the government grant.

Combined with manufacturer support and 0% APR finance, monthly payments are now competitive with petrol alternatives. The key here is clarity. While many buyers are still left unsure about how the Government’s electric car grant is going to pan out, Smart is acting now with confirmed savings.

With strong spec levels, good real-world range and established dealer support, this deal puts the Smart EVs in sharper focus for anyone ready to switch.

Editor’s view: carbuyers win via bandwagon jumping

It’s a case of Smart joining the herd. Nothing wrong with that, as new-car buyers are winning out. The number of carmakers jumping the gun ahead of official confirmation on the Government’s EV grant is growing fast – and frankly, who can blame them?

Buyers want clarity and action, not silence and confusion. Smart’s offer, stacked on top of existing support, puts the #1 and #3 back on the radar for buyers who might have been hesitating.

It’s a sensible move that keeps Smart in the conversation. And with strong spec and competitive pricing, it might just be the nudge needed to help buyers finally make the switch. Here, you can catch up with all carmakers offering EV discounts.
