The layout is much the same as the interior of the C4 but there’s more than a few DS badges littered about to remind you that you have paid a premium for it. The soft black plastic is a nice touch but the lookalike carbon-effect trim is a little naff. Some of the plastics in the rear are not of the quality that you would expect: they feel a little flimsy and may not fare well over the life-span of the car.

In the rear there is a fair amount of room even when you are seated behind a six-footer and are of average build and height. The coupe shape means this is a four-seater only even though it has a three-seat bench in the rear. The middle seat is only for those who are of a smaller dimension and is best reserved for kids on an occasional short journey.

Despite this, Citroen DS4 comfort levels are surprisingly good. Wind, road and tyre noise is all kept to a minimum unless you are driving extremely quickly. Try to keep the wheel size down and you’ll improve the ride comfort: go for 19- or 20-inch wheels and you’ll really feel the potholes that litter the UK road network.
